ADVANTAGES OF COHORT STUDY:
Cohort study is an analytical study to obtain additional evidence to refuse or support the existence of an association between suspected cause & disease (prospective study).
a) Incidence can be calculated.
b) Several possible outcomes, related to exposure can be studied simultaneously. E.g. Smoking is related to lung cancer, CHD, peptic ulcer, cancer of oesophagus etc.
c) Direct estimation of relative risk.
d) Dose-response ratio can be calculated.
e) Comparison groups are formed before disease develops certain forms of bias can be minimized. E.g. Mis- classification of individuals into exposed & unexposed groups.
